Welcome Back to another Outstanding year for the Magsig Band!
Going Green: The new Magsig Band Handbook is HERE. By using the PDF version, we're saving 2250 pieces of paper. Students will receive the signature pages of this document for your signature as we review the information in class. On that page, you will have the option to receive paper copies if needed. The earth thanks you.
The daily schedule is here for your review. I'll be asking students to write their schedules in their MOP (Magsig Organizer Planner) to avoid confusion. The office schedules are hard to figure out for noon hour classes. Band/Orchestra 'double duty' students will get their own personalized schedules next week.
Attention Jazz Ensemble Members: Jazz Ensemble tryout music is now available at the link to the left of the page and outside the band room. Also online is an Mp3 example of the audition and a SmartMusic accompaniment to help you prepare.
This Tuesday will be the last chance to audition. See Mr. Pompei for details!
School Delay Reminder: There will be no morning 6th grade band or jazz ensemble on school delay days. On a two hour delay, students should report to their advisory by 10:50 A.M. Stay safe!
Assignments: There is always a band practice assignment due each week. Typically, every week is a new page from the method book, along with selections for upcoming performances. Music Theory worksheets and practice reports will be due in three week intervals each quarter.
You can find the most recent theory assignment here if you need another copy. Practice reports are available in the band room only. Check the online gradebook program to see the most recent grades. Be aware that the gradebook program is updated only periodically. Our goal is to help students be accountable for their assignments with the use of the Magsig Organizer Planner (M.O.P.) and classroom announcements.
Attention Parents of Drummers: All drummers must be wearing hearing protection when practicing loudly or in a rehearsal with multiple drummers playing loudly. Musician earplugs are available in the band room for $10 per pair, or at this local store. Here is a great site about musician hearing loss.
Concert Etiquette:
With the rise in popularity of cell phones, email, and texting, it is important to revisit concert etiquette. It is not acceptable to check email, phone messages, or text during a live concert. More information on concert etiquette is here.
Band Room E-Newsletter: E-mail Mr. Pompei with your email address if you'd like to be on the e-newsletter list. The email you provided on the band handbook and/or band enrollment form has already been entered.
You may also text your email address using your cell phone. Send a text to 22333 starting with the code 101989. For example, texting 101989Tom.Pompei@Centerville.k12.oh.us" sent to 22333 would add my email to the band room E-Newsletter.
