8th Grade Band Clinic: The permission form for the 8th grade trip to CHS on January 23rd is here. This is a required event for all 8th grade band students. Details are on the permission form, due by Wednesday, January 18th. ______________________________________________________ Honor Band: Congratulations to all who were selected for Centerville Honor Band. Information and Rehearsal Schedule is HERE. ______________________________________________________ Concert Shirts: The black polo shirts are IN! I will distribute them in the next few weeks.
There was an error in ordering our Magsig Music shirts this
year. T-shirts ended up being delivered instead of the nice polo shirts
we use for concert attire. The error has been corrected, but we now have
111 extra t-shirts that are not appropriate for use as concert attire.
These are high quality poly/cotton blend black t-shirts, pre-shrunk.
They have 'Magsig Music' embroidered on the chest in red and are now FOR SALE!
At only
$5 per shirt, they make great stocking stuffers, or just an everyday
use black t-shirt...show your support for Magsig and Arts by wearing
them proudly.
You can buy them in the office or at the concert. Checks payable to "Magsig Middle School."
The
t-shirts could not be returned after being embroidered. Our shirt
supplier, 'retired' band booster president Shirley Planet, had to take a
loss of close to a thousand dollars on the t-shirts. Shirley graciously
donated the t-shirts to the school. Funds from the sale of the t-shirts
will go back to Shirley.

Band Handbook: The new handbook is HERE The band handbook is for your reference, answering just about any question you might have about band. Concert Attendance policies are explained. You already have signed and returned the back page of the handbook at the beginning of the school year.
Assignments: Most students do very well in Band. A large portion, 20%, of the band grade is based on three music theory assignments per quarter. Since band is a different type of class, sometimes the paperwork aspect gets left behind...the sign of an artistic mind perhaps? If a student doesn't receive an A or B in band, it is most likely due to missing music theory assignments.
JazzCakes 2012 Announcement:
Due to schedule and space conflicts, JazzCakes Pancake Breakfast
2012 has been moved to Saturday, March 24, 2012 and will be held at Centerville
High School back gymnasium. Mark your calendars now as this jazz ensemble
performance is a change from previously published dates in the band calendar
and band handbooks.
This will be the third annual JazzCakes, a community pancake
breakfast featuring all our middle and high school jazz ensembles. We
need your help to make this event a huge success. Please contact our
event chair, Margaret Buttram at msbuttram@hotmail.com if you are able to donate time,
money, or door prizes.
Last year, over 800 pancake breakfasts were digested, aided by the
sounds of our student ensembles!
School Delay Reminder: There will be no morning 6th grade band or jazz ensemble on school delay days. On a two hour delay, students should report to their advisory by 10:50 A.M. Stay safe!
Attention Parents of Drummers: All drummers must be wearing hearing protection when practicing loudly or in a rehearsal with multiple drummers playing loudly. Musician earplugs are available in the band room for $10 per pair, or at this local store. Here is a great site about musician hearing loss.
Concert Etiquette: With the rise in popularity of cell phones, email, and texting, it is important to revisit concert etiquette. It is not acceptable to check email, phone messages, or text during a live concert. More information on concert etiquette is here.
